FROM A PASSION FOR LEGO TO A BUSINESS IDEA
Light My Bricks began with a simple obsession. As a young parent, Kenny rediscovered his love for LEGO, and quickly found himself spending more time (and money) on it than he expected.
I wanted to find a way to make my LEGO collections look better.
At the time, there were no lighting solutions designed specifically for LEGO. So Kenny decided to experiment himself - initially as a way to combine creativity with a business idea, and, as he jokes, justify buying LEGO guilt-free.
What started on a kitchen table quickly turned into something much bigger.
BUILDING EVERYTHING - AND PAYING THE PRICE
In the early days, Kenny had no business background. He learned by trial and error while juggling a full-time job, family life, and a growing side project.
I was doing everything - from customer service to designing products to marketing.
With no systems, no team structure and no separation between work and home, the business consumed almost every spare hour. Like many first-time founders, growth came at the cost of personal time and sustainability.
RAPID GROWTH AND NEW PRESSUREs
As the brand gained traction, demand accelerated, particularly during COVID, when customers around the world rediscovered hobbies like LEGO while spending more time at home. The growth was exciting, but it also exposed cracks in the business.
I was so tied down to being relied on for everything.
Revenue climbed, headcount increased, and operations became more complex, and Kenny remained the bottleneck. Without systems, structure or clear financial oversight, the business reached a point where growth slowed and stress increased.
That moment forced a decision: continue grinding, or get help.
FINDING STRUCTURE AND CLARITY
Kenny joined The Entourage’s Elevate Program looking for more than motivation. He needed structure and the know how to build teams properly, implement systems, and manage cashflow in a growing global e-commerce business.
I didn’t know enough about structure, systems, hiring, or finance.
Through Elevate, Kenny worked on reshaping the business foundation. He introduced clearer roles, better financial controls, forecasting, and accountability across the team. The focus shifted from doing more, to doing what mattered better.
PROFIT OVER TOP-LINE GROWTH
One of the biggest shifts came in how Kenny viewed success.
We went through a year where we were chasing top-line revenue, and at the end of the year, it was like "where’s all the money gone?"
Light My Bricks grew from $10M to $15M in annual revenue - but that growth came with little profit. With clearer financial discipline and better systems in place, the business changed course.
In the past six months, the company has:
-
Maintained strong revenue
-
Protected gross margins
-
Achieved ~15% profit, turning growth into money in the bank
I don’t care so much about the top line anymore. I care more about clarity, efficiency and profit.
A STRONGER TEAM AND CULTURE
As structure improved, so did culture. The business moved away from reactive firefighting toward a united team with clear roles, shared goals and accountability.
Kenny realised that scale wasn’t about more people. Tt was about the right people in the right roles, supported by clear systems. With that foundation in place, the team became more confident, collaborative and resilient.
A BUSINESS AND LIFE THAT FEELS SUSTAINABLE
Today, Light My Bricks is a global e-commerce brand with a loyal customer base and a clear future. Kenny’s perception of business has fundamentally changed.
“I’ve learned that you can work less on the business and it can still grow if you have the right systems and people in place.”
Instead of being buried in day-to-day operations, Kenny now focuses on product innovation, brand growth and long-term strategy - building a business that supports life, not the other way around.
LOOKING AHEAD
The next phase for Light My Bricks is about doubling down on what they do best: creating exceptional products, strengthening their community, and continuing to improve the customer experience.
For Kenny, success isn’t just scale - it’s building a brand people love, with a team that loves building it.
“I want Light My Bricks to always be remembered as a company that’s constantly striving to improve.”
