Planet Fitness Newcastle is famously known in the region as the Judgement Free Gym of Newcastle. Having been in business for 25+ years and well-recognised in the local community, stepping up into the managing role as Director of Operations for Montana Rosekelly, the daughter of the Founder, was no small feat.
Montana had taken the big leap to lead the business and take the helm of a big ship to give her father the chance to start elevating himself out of the business for the first time. However, this meant a massive, forced growth period for Montana. Despite a deep understanding of the customer, their needs, the business's values, and its philosophies, Montana struggled with the organisational mechanisms of the business, as many entrepreneurs do as the business scales.

Within 4 months, Montana was able to take the business’s monthly revenue net gain to 20%, pulling the best figures the business had done in its 25 years previously. Attending the workshops and working with our Elevate business coaches, Montana was able to not only connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs in The Entourage’s community but also learn everything about business she needed to know at the stage of business she was at — from the foundations to the newest concepts every business owner needs to know.
The COVID-19 impact on the health and fitness industry
Just as Planet Fitness was going from strength to strength, growing better and bigger than it had ever been before, COVID-19 hit Australia and the country was shut down. All in-person businesses were closed and for gym owners, there were next to no opportunities to present digital options for business instead.
For 3 months, it was a waiting game. When gyms were allowed to reopen in NSW, Australia where Planet Fitness is located, the national average of membership losses for health clubs was sitting at 10-20%. But through the help of the business coaches at The Entourage supporting Montana through this period, she was able to sustain no significant membership losses. Not only that, Montana hired an extra 10 employees and is planning to open a new club within 2021.
Joining the Elevate program in The Entourage has been by far the most significant and immediate change maker for myself and the business too.
