These are the steps anyone can take to building a multi-million dollar brand with a message

All businesses start with a dream, an idea that begs to be brought to life by an entrepreneur with passion and purpose. But many don't know how to turn that dream into reality, and even fewer are able to bring with it a movement and worldwide success.

Lord of the Fries started with 1 food truck touring the country to now 27 stores, and the largest vegan fast-food franchise in the southern hemisphere, leading the charge in the plant-based movement around the world. From humble beginnings and a love of fries, Amanda Leigh Walker shares her incredible journey with us in this special episode of The Make It Happen Show (filmed live from The Entourage's exclusive event for Members, The Entrepreneurs' Assembly, and hosted by our Founder Jack Delosa).

Covering everything from imposter syndrome despite making 8-figures, to the keys to blasting through a plateau in business, and featuring a Q&A from our Elevate and Accelerate members, this is a massive episode deep-diving into the mind of a multi-million dollar founder, and the steps you can take to make it there too.

Questions asked in this episode:

  • 2:24 - At the age of 15, there was a lot of stuff going on in your life. Before starting your business, talk to us about your teenage years.
  • 4:53 - How important was that adversity early on in enabling you to develop a resilience that would no doubt be required in your business life later on?
  • 6:01 - From 1 food truck to 27 stores, Lord of the Fries is now the largest vegan fast-food franchise in the southern hemisphere. How did you guys, at the beginning of your business journey, find and navigate the early days were there wasn't a lot of capital?
  • 10:42 - You were bootstrapping in the early years, how did you find bootstrapping with not a lot of cash in the business?
  • 11:26 - You guys have obviously experienced a lot of growth. If we were to summarise the journey, what have been the core factors that have enabled the high growth that you guys had?
  • 15:54 - Lord of the Fries was originally vegetarian and ultimately evolved to be a vegan restaurant because that mirrored what was going on with the co-founders. Talk to us about the importance of the business being a representation of who you are.
  • 17:40 - What's been the most challenging component of the journey for you?
  • 19:04 - As a coach, you help a lot of females move through imposter syndrome. What are some of the strategies and tools you help people equip themselves with to move past it or through it?
  • 24:44 - If a business owner feels that their business is plateauing or going through a challenging period, what's one thing that they can do to move through it and make it happen?
  • 28:08 - Q&A:
    • 28:18 - What led you down the path of a franchise model as opposed to just running all the stores as your own business?
    • 31:17 - What have been the main things you looked for in franchisees? And have you trusted your gut on things?
    • 36:23 - How do you communicate with your franchisees?
    • 38:59 - Have you experienced guilt around how much time and energy you put into your business versus your family or friends, and how did you manage that?
  • 42:20 - Make It Happen In A Minute

Entourage on point again!

Great content again from The Entourage! Particularly like the 1st episode and the points Tim Fung made about making sure you make time to map out the future and don't get stuck on day to day 'work', as well as the observation that you really need to be strategic about your people management and not just try to save money. Two awesome take homes I have already taken action on!

Well this was one of the best things I’ve heard in a while. I’m by no means the target demographic, having zero business or entrepreneurial experience at all. Luckily the advice given for business growth and success is remarkably applicable to personal growth and success. Loved the conversational style, by the end of the podcast I felt like I knew both Tims personally, which is a great mark of engagement. And I loved hearing about the humble beginnings of Airtasker from the founder himself. Give this a listen if you’re craving a bit of personal or professional inspiration.
